Detailed Introduction of this Jazz Suite, including audio samples and short description of each "movement" to let film makers visualize each scene. Content / Goals / Opportunities & Benefits Welcome to Sketches Of A City One Day. One City. A Global Jazz Symphony. Sketches Of A City is a unique multimedia project designed to bridge the gap between music and the visual arts. At its heart is a bespoke Jazz Suite that musically traces the pulse of a city over a single 24-hour cycle—capturing the moods, the locations, and the people from dawn until dawn. This is more than just a composition; it is a universal canvas. Designed to be adaptable to almost any major metropolis worldwide, this project aims to connect continents through the shared rhythm of urban life. Flipping the Script As the composer, I challenge filmmakers and students to reverse the traditional creative process. Instead of scoring a picture, I invite you to visualize the music. By listening closely to the themes and intentions of the Jazz Suite, creators rediscover the beauty of their city and bring a storyboard to life through their own artistic lens. The Goal: Fall 2026 From the 1st layout to the world stage, the ultimate ambition is to premiere a selected production at a prestigious music festival in the fall of 2026, accompanied by a live performance. 9.) Night Life (Cut) Rolf Becker We accompany our 3 people we followed from their home to their working place at the Start of this Suite, to their different places and venues they want to visit at night: - The 1st one is just walking around, enjoying the night atmosphere - The 2nd one visits a classical concert, dressed up very elegant, while - The 3rd one is clubbing, enjoying drinks and dancing

  • (IB-)Music Composition Basic I - 2 | MusicMyLanguage

What comes first: Chord Structure, Music Genre or rhythm pattern to find your melody? Let's dive in and find ways how to start composing! (IB-) Music / Composition & Orchestration (Arrangement) A Course - (Almost) Starting From Scratch by Rolf Becker 2.) Practical Exercise: Starting with a Chord Progression Let’s dive into the practical side of composition by focusing on chord progressions as a starting point. Task: a) Compose a 4-measure (bar) melody using the following chord sequence: I - IV - V7 - I ( Example in C Major: C - F - G7 - C) b) Repeat your 4-measure melody but alter the ending by using a slightly different chord sequence: I - IIm7 - V7 - I ( Example in C Major: C - Dm7 - G7 - C) 00:00 / 00:36 3.) The Creative Process 1. Listen and Experiment: Play the provided audio file of the chord progression repeatedly. Let the harmony guide your creativity. 2. Find Your Melody: Sing, hum, or play along with your instrument to discover a 4-measure melody that resonates with you. Find your melody, based on the Scales, Chord triads or enhance YOUR melody by incorporating passing notes, but use them wisely to ensure they complement rather than disrupt the underlying chord structure. 3. Record Your Idea: Use your smartphone or a music program to capture YOUR melody. If you’re away from your usual setup, a quick recording will suffice. Later, you can transcribe it onto the provided sheet music using either 4/4 or 3/4 time signature sheets (s. next page). PREVIOUS NEXT

Get in touch to learn more about the "Sketches Of A City" project Dear (IB) Film Teachers , In order to be able to realize this great project, a contractual agreement with the respective school is necessary so that both sides are legally protected, especially if a professional studio recording of the music is to be made for a DVD or online streaming production (e.g. price scale, music license fees, contract terms, etc.) The pricing for the realization of this project depends on the number of participating schools, so that a coverage of the rather high studio production costs is guaranteed (musicians' fees, recording studio, sound engineers, mixing & mastering). *The studio recordings will be played by top professional musicians to guarantee the "real life application" goal. I therefore ask for a lively exchange with other colleagues, either to use this project as an individual project within the framework of the (IB) film program and/or to seek cooperation with other schools in order to realize a local or even international film production. I would now like to ask you to contact me (see below) to initiate the next steps. Thank you very much!
